What is the Role of a School Board Trustee?
According to the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), the five main responsibilities of a School Board are:
- Adopting goals and priorities, and monitoring success
- Adopting policies and reviewing for effectiveness
- Hiring and Evaluating the superintendent
- Adopting a budget and setting a tax rate
- Communicating with the community
Individual board members have no authority in the district as individuals; the board governs and acts as a body by majority vote and operates as a “Team of Eight” with 7 elected Trustees + the Superintendent.
I will work with my fellow Trustees and the Superintendent to set goals and priorities that reflect our high expectations for student outcomes and to monitor progress towards those goals.
